The Cairngorms
17/05/06: Index page updated to include the plans for the next three expeditions, the first of which begins on July 21st.
After walking extensively in the Lakes and Wales during 2005, I decided to venture further afield in 2006. My first trip took place in early February to the Cairngorms: read the report below.
The Scottish Highlands cover a vast area. Some people, the dedicated Munroists, make it their mission to climb every one of the 284 mountains over 3000 feet in Scotland. There are also 219 mountains over 2500 feet in height. Living in East Anglia, I can never hope to climb any significant number of these unless I move further north. My current goal is to make two or three visits this year and climb a few of the best and most rewarding mountains.
My plan currently includes Glen Torridon, Cairngorm, and Glencoe over the course of this year and the coming winter season. I have included all of the mountains and climbs, both summer and winter, that I'm likely to try, but this by no means is a guarantee that I'll complete all of them! My ultimate goal for 2007 is currently the traverse of Aonach Eagach in winter conditions. Hopefully next season will continue late into the year, like the 05/06 season!
