The Lake District
Langdale from The Band, Bowfell
COMING SOON! Descriptions of favourite routes with detailed OS mapping
Scrambling guides covering all the routes I've completed so far
The English Lake District is one of the finest landscapes in the British Isles. Although the mountains may not have quite the same altitude as the big'uns of Wales and Scotland, the valleys have been farmed for thousands of years and look green and idyllic from the summits. It is often a surprise to look down from a storm-lashed crag to see sunlight smiling on the fields far below.
Alfred Wainwright divided the mountains of the Lake District into several well-defined regions,
making use of natural boundaries such as valleys, rivers and lakes. I have climbed hills in three of these
regions, the Southern, Central and Western Fells, and below you can find links to information about the fells
I've visited so far. As I gradually add to my list of Wainwrights, more will appear, hopefully from some of the other areas.
Important note: Due to space constraints, the only fells now listed in the table are either ones I've already climbed,
or are planning to climb within the next year or two. I will add any other fells on as and when I come to them!
I have also added a list of scrambles at the bottom of the main table. I've organised the by area, instead of by region as I did
in the North Wales section, to make picking out invidual routes easier. I have already completed three of the easiest and the files
will be coming online within the next week or so.
